INCIDENCE OF PERMANENT VEGETATION COVER IN THE VEGETATIVE EXPRESSION, YIELD AND MATURATION OF TEMPRANILLO.
The IMV technical team is conducting an exhaustive follow-up on the growth of the vineyard on a parcel of land that presents a vegetative cover of ryegrass on half its surface area, while the other half is being worked using traditional techniques.
The objective being pursued with this study consists of confirming effects of the vegetative cover on the vegetative growth of the vineyard, the development of the fruit and assessing the organoleptic characteristics of the wines offered by these two cultivation systems.
Now that we are in the second year of the study, we have obtained very interesting results that contradict similar studies conducted in the Communities of Navarra and La Rioja. It seems that the Mediterranean climate and soil conditions are a determining factor in the impact of the vegetative cover on the vineyard and, consequently, on the final wines.
